Vierville after the Americans left

English reading guide

About this dossier

The page gathers photographs of Vierville from the winter of 1944–1945 and later years, after most American personnel had left. Views show damaged buildings, the beach exit, surviving harbour structures and remaining stores. The text also describes mine-clearance work by a team including German prisoners and French personnel. The dossier extends the story beyond liberation, recording the continuing presence of wreckage, danger and recovery in the local landscape.

This English guide introduces the dossier. Yves Cordelle’s archival text, quotations and captions are preserved in the linked French edition, including any original-language passages. The guide does not replace the original document or resolve its uncertainties.
