A collection to preserve and pass on
Keeping these archives accessible means providing hosting, maintaining the website and updating its presentation over the years. You can help sustain this work.
Yves Cordelle launched the first website in 2006. He brought together texts, photographs, maps, reports and eyewitness accounts about the Omaha Beach landings, particularly at Vierville-sur-Mer.
Since October 2026, his grandson Yohann Cordelle is responsible for its continuation and redesign. The new presentation makes the documents easier to read on a phone and access, while preserving the collection’s texts, captions and sources.
The original contents page states that the information has not been updated since 2020. The technical renewal and preservation of the site do not amount to a fresh historical verification of every document.
The collection in numbers
A collection of 232 documentary dossiers and 3,394 image reproductions, including 61 dossiers in the witness accounts section.
3,394 recorded reproductions
The same reproduction may appear in several sections, so these figures cannot be added together.
61 files to read
Accounts, recollections and correspondence: a single file may bring together several documents or voices.
232 files across five sections
Relevé du 25 October 2026, based on the illustrations in the online files. Small images and their linked enlargements, as well as identical files, are grouped together. Different reproductions of the same photograph may still be counted separately.
Within each main section, a reproduction is counted only once, even if it appears in several files. The same reproduction may nevertheless appear in several sections. The photographs also include frames from period films. This is an inventory of available reproductions, rather than a count of unique original photographs.
