Lieutenant Nance’s account

English reading guide

About this dossier

Lieutenant Nance describes landing with Company B’s command boat while accompanying men of Company A/116, and his shock at the losses on the beach. He recalls a reluctant ramp, chest-deep water and the absence of the men he expected to find ashore. The testimony preserves his personal sequence of observations rather than a complete account of the company. It should be read alongside the other Company A and B recollections and the broader landing chronology.

This English guide introduces the dossier. Yves Cordelle’s archival text, quotations and captions are preserved in the linked French edition, including any original-language passages. The guide does not replace the original document or resolve its uncertainties.
