This cemetery was a little west of the current cemetery, which was built several years later (opened in 1956). The Americans originally called it "Cimetiere de Saint-Laurent", although it was situated entirely in the territory of the commune of Colleville.
Its construction began on 11 June and the 3797 bodies were transferred from the first temporary cemetery at the foot of the cliff between Vierville and Saint-Laurent and from other locations and as the battlefield arrived.
Some of the photos presented may have been taken from other temporary cemeteries of the time, including La Cambe.
